Frequent asked questions

Why choose Yachthop for a semi-private day cruise from Athens?

Yachthop is powered by Istion Yachting, one of Greece’s most established yacht charter companies with over 30 years of experience providing sailing charters across the country. Our semi-private day cruises from Athens offer the perfect balance of comfort, connection, and convenience, ideal for visitors with limited time to explore the islands.

You’ll sail along the stunning Athens Riviera on a spacious modern catamaran, sharing the experience with a small group (maximum 12 guests) and a professional English-speaking skipper and crew. It’s a relaxed, sociable, and easy way to enjoy the Greek coastline in just one day, with plenty of swimming, good food, and friendly company, no sailing experience needed.

How long are the cruises, and where is the meeting point?

Yachthop offers two daily semi-private cruises from Athens — a morning cruise and a sunset cruise:

  • Morning cruise: departs from Alimos Marina at 9:30 AM and returns at 2:30 PM

  • Sunset cruise: departs at 4:00 PM and returns just after sunset (around 9:00 PM or slightly later, depending on the season)

The meeting point for both is at our base in Alimos Marina, located on the eastern coast of Athens. You can view the exact spot on Google Maps here, and you’ll also receive a confirmation email with directions after booking.

Alimos Marina is just a 15–20 minute taxi ride from central Athens, where most hotels are located. Public transport is also available. If you’re traveling as a group and would like help arranging transportation, our reservations team is happy to assist.

We kindly ask all guests to arrive 15–20 minutes early, and please note that Greek port authorities require all passengers to submit passport details in advance. Our team will contact you to collect this information before your cruise.

What should I bring with me on the cruise?

For your comfort and safety on board, we recommend bringing the following:

  • Swimsuit (you’ll have plenty of time to swim)

  • Sunscreen and a hat or sunglasses for sun protection

  • Towel (towels are not provided on semi-private cruises)

  • Light clothing and a change of dry clothes if needed

  • Soft bag or backpack (avoid hard suitcases)

  • Valid ID or passport - required by port authorities

Please note that you’ll be asked to remove your shoes when boarding, so we suggest wearing sandals or slip-ons that are easy to take off.

You’re also welcome to bring snacks or drinks of your own (see below for more on food and drink), but please keep in mind that fridge space is limited, and alcohol should be kept to a minimum.

What’s included on board during the cruise?

Your semi-private cruise includes:

  • A professional English-speaking skipper and crew

  • Use of snorkeling equipment, including masks, fins, and pool noodles

  • Lifejackets for all guests, including appropriately sized vests for children

  • Fuel, port fees, and taxes

  • A freshly prepared meal on board, along with a selection of Greek appetizers

  • Beer, wine, soft drinks, and bottled water

There are no hidden costs — everything listed above is included in the price of your cruise.

What kind of food and drinks are available, and can you accommodate allergies?

On board, we serve a freshly cooked meal, usually featuring seafood pasta, seasonal salads, and a selection of Greek-style appetizers such as tzatziki, pita pies, and more. You’ll also enjoy local wine, beer, soft drinks, and plenty of water throughout the cruise. Alcohol is limited to three drinks per guest for safety.

Food allergies and dietary restrictions:
We are happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free requests — but we kindly ask that you let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly. While we do our best to accommodate needs, please note that last-minute changes may not be possible once the cruise has departed.

If you have specific needs (e.g. baby food or children’s snacks), you're welcome to bring your own food. Fridge space on board is limited, so please ask our team for advice in advance if you're unsure.

How many people are on board, and do children need a ticket?

Our semi-private cruises are designed for a small group experience, with a maximum of 12 guests on board. This ensures plenty of space to relax and enjoy the cruise without feeling crowded.

Children and infants:
All passengers - including infants - must be listed on the official crew and passenger list submitted to the port authorities before departure. For this reason, children and babies do require a ticket, even if they don’t occupy a seat. Please let us know the age of any children in your group so we can provide the appropriate lifejacket size for them.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the cruise?

Your safety and comfort are our top priority. In the rare case that weather conditions are not suitable for sailing, we will notify you in advance and offer the option to:

  • Reschedule your cruise to another available date, or

  • Receive a full refund

Our team closely monitors the marine forecast, and we only cancel cruises when necessary. If you have any concerns in the days before your trip, feel free to contact us.

Nicky and her colleague were very welcoming upon arrival, they took us to two lovely swimming spots where we enjoyed ourselves for quite some time. The catamaran itself is so nice and spacious, the bathrooms were VERY clean. Nicky prepared a wonderful seafood pasta, 2 salads, bread and had an array of soft drinks and wine. I think it's well worth the money for a semi private boat tour. A great day out to escape the heat of the city!

An unforgettable experience! My family and I embarked on a five-hour cruise with Joanna and Chris and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we stepped on board, their warm hospitality made us feel right at home. Swimming in the crystal-clear waters was incredibly refreshing, and the lunch that was prepared was delicious!

We had such an incredible time on this excursion. Perfect duration of time, beautiful spots to swim, and Nicky and Thomas were the absolute best! Nicky made a homemade meal on the boat for us all to share and Thomas had all the great recommendations for the Greek islands.
